Living in Oakland, FL gives us many benefits. One of those benefits is the West Orange Trail. The West Orange Trail runs right behind our house and it is a 22 mile bicycle and walking trail. Our home sits at approximately 2.5 miles from the start of the trail (Killarney Station). The route is considered a rail trail as it follows the old railroad tracks that use to run through this area. The trail flows through some nice small towns and beautiful wooded areas. Since the trail is paved the entire distance and relatively flat it is an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors and get in some exercise.
We usually walk towards Killarney Station every morning as it runs through the center of Oakland.
One of the best things about our walks is the variety of differences just from day to day.
One day it can be nice and sunny the next a tad bit foggy.
The part we like best is that along the trail there is an exotic animal rescue habitat. This place is a safe haven for such grazing animals as zebras, emus, and even long horn cattle. In addition, there are wild peacocks running around to make things even more like a touch of paradise.
To think that a simple walk in the morning around Oakland would bring so much joy and peace of mind is simply an understatement. It is one of the things that allows us to remain sane in the hustle and bustle of living in the modern world. So take some time for yourself to enjoy the beauty around you as it may be just a simple walk in the morning that will bring you happiness.
