When it is the cold season in Central Florida we get to enjoy fresh carrots from the garden.
They are tasty and we use them in salads and cooked dishes.
The cold weather makes them sweet and we grow a large variety of different colors.
They are all good!

There is nothing better than getting to a city you have never been to before and venturing out. This was what we did when we went to San Francisco.
We found many sights that we have all seen on movies and TV at one time or another.
But by far the thing we loved best were the Parrots of Telegraph Hill. We had seen a documentary about these birds and really wanted to see them. We are so glad we did because it made our day.
The two other views we really enjoyed was Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. There is so much to see and do in San Francisco that we will need to go back.

Just under an hour drive north of St. Petersburg is the town of Tarpon Springs. The name of the town came from the abundance of Tarpon fish in the area. The town is also known as the “Sponge Capital of the World.”
The downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. When you walk around the brick streets you can view art galleries, antique stores, and a whole host of shops where the buildings date back to the late 1800’s.
Tarpon Springs is still very active in the sponge industry that made it famous and sponge ships still line the harbor to this day.
There is much to see in Tarpon Springs and there is always something special for you to enjoy.

We love going to SeaWorld. It gives us the chance to see all sorts of sea creatures up close. On our last trip to SeaWorld we spent most of the day just observing the animals there. Since we enjoy just watching we thought we would give all of you a taste of what we saw.

As we have told in past posts we have a nice garden in which we grow many different fruits and vegetables. This time of year we are harvesting bananas. Once the flower forms on the banana tree it takes 3 to 4 months before you can harvest the fruit. This year we are very lucky to have 3 bunches growing at the same time. We just harvested our first bunch.
The best way to harvest the huge bunch of bananas is one hand at a time. Each of the above sections shown in the picture is called a “hand.” Several hands make up a bunch when we harvest them. We still have two more bunches to harvest.
With so many bananas ripening at the same time what are you to do? Well of course you eat some but that is too many to eat before they ripen too much. So… we make banana muffins and banana bread. We are often told that our banana muffins and banana bread is so tasty but when friends try to recreate our recipe they cannot get the same taste. The secret is simple. We use fresh bananas from the garden not ones from the store.
Once they are made we can freeze the muffins and bread and take them out whenever we want a treat.

A recent addition to Disney Springs over the past couple of years is the Christmas Tree Trail. It is a wonderful family fun walk-through experience. Each tree is inspired by a Disney character or theme. The Christmas Tree Trail is open from early November until January 6th. We decided over the weekend to go and take a look so we can share it with all of you.
Disney sure does put a lot of details into these trees.
It even snows at the Christmas Tree Trail!!

On our last trip to Cancun we stayed at Secrets The Vine. It is an adults only all-inclusive resort in Cancun along hotel row. It is such a wonderful place to relax and enjoy time with your special someone. There are three pools at this hotel with one located up on 12th floor and the other two are located just steps away from the beach.
The Vine is a designed in a modern style and it is the tallest hotel on the beach in Cancun. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is impeccable.
The gym is well equipped and has a great view.
The food and drinks at the resort are wonderful and there are several different restaurants for you to choose from when you are hungry. In addition, there is a constant stream of entertainment throughout the day and night. The video has highlights of what we enjoyed while we were there.
The best part is spending time with your loved one and reconnecting.

When you visit Lukas Nursery you are visiting a piece of Central Florida history. Paul Lukas and Mary Klimek emigrated to the United States from Czechosovakia. Mary in 1899 and Paul in 1905. They met in Cleveland, Ohio and got married in 1908.
In 1911, Paul and Mary had enough of the city and decided to live the life of farmers. They left Cleveland with six other families settled in the Oviedo area and began their farm in 1912. They named the area where the farm was located as Slavia.
Over time that farm became Lukas Nursery. In 2012, they celebrated 100 years of doing agriculture in the same location the family settled. In fact, they even wrote it in a sidewalk on the property. The inscription reads; ” 100 years 1912 – 2012 In agriculture at the same location. We love our customers. Thank you! The Lukas Family”
The nursery has a big selection of very large pots that are not normally found anywhere else.
Of course, the nursery has a huge variety of plants.
And sprinkled throughout the nursery are all sorts of garden statues, fountains, and interesting finds.

This family run restaurant was started in 1979 as a tiny pizzeria. It has grown over the years to four locations in the Central Florida area. Those locations are in Longwood, Apopka, Titusville, and Oviedo. Since we were in the Oviedo area and were looking for some lunch we decided to to stop by Victorio’s. I am sure glad we did. Everything was delicious. Since their specialty are oysters we decided to give them a try. The oysters were fresh and tasty.
Next we had a Create Your Own Seafood Platter. When you create this platter you get a choice of two seafood items such as Jumbo Shrimp, Scallops, Fried Clams, Crab Bites, Pangasius, Grouper Fingers, and Fried Oysters. On our platter we chose Grouper Fingers and Grilled Jumbo Shrimp. The platter also came with Hush Puppies, Cole Slaw, and one additional side. For our additional side we got the fresh vegetable of the day Broccoli.
Our next entrée was the Grouper’s Cousin Sandwich. It is a sandwich with Pandasius that can be served in one of three styles. We decided on the fried style. It came with seasoned fries.
It was all really good and I know we will be back to this restaurant again.
